From Bud to Bottle
From Bud to Bottle - A year in the life of a great little Hawke's Bay winery from John Miles is a photo book with a difference. John wanted to show more than just beautiful, scenic vineyards and good-looking wineries and cellar doors. He wanted to tell the story of the growing and the making of Hawke's Bay wines. To show the effort, energy and time that goes into nurturing the vines and the fruit through cold, damp winters and hot, dry summers. And he wanted to tell the story of the owners, the winemakers and the vineyard teams as they work their magic from bud to bottle. So, firstly John committed to visiting the winery and the vineyards at least one day a week throughout a full year starting in July and ending twelve months later. The book is organised by seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn and back to Winter. And John's taken a storybook approach to the layout. Not just one image per page, but maybe two, or three or even six images laid-out across a two-page spread. His intent is for each spread to tell a story about some aspect of the winemaking year in a boutique winery in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.
